Requirements for Registered Breeder Membership with EBKC
Be open to mentorship from experienced breeders and participate in EBKC-sponsored events and education programs.
Application Process:
Complete a breeder application form provided by EBKC.
Provide identification and proof of residence.
Membership Fee:
Pay the applicable breeder membership fee as determined by EBKC.
Breeding Ethics:
Adhere to EBKC’s Code of Ethics, which includes:
Commitment to responsible breeding practices.
Prioritize the health and welfare of the dogs above profit.
Avoid breeding practices that may harm the physical or mental health of the dogs.
Ensure proper socialization and training of puppies.
Health Testing:
Conduct necessary health tests on all breeding stock, including but not limited to:
Hip dysplasia screening (e.g., OFA or PennHIP certification).
Elbow dysplasia screening.
Heart disease screening (e.g., echocardiogram).
Eye examinations (e.g., CERF certification).
Genetic testing for breed-specific diseases (e.g., for American Bully, American Pit Bull Terrier, etc.).
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed records of all breeding activities, including:
Pedigree information for all breeding stock.
Health test results for all breeding animals.
Documentation of matings, whelping dates, and puppy sales.
Welfare Standards:
Provide a safe and healthy living environment for all dogs.
Ensure that breeding dogs are not overbred and are given adequate rest between litters.
Provide proper veterinary care, nutrition, and socialization for all dogs.
Puppy Sales Practices:
Adhere to ethical sales practices, including:
Provide a written sales contract to new puppy owners.
Offer a health guarantee for puppies sold.
Ensure puppies are at least eight weeks old before placement in new homes.
Provide new owners with information on proper care, training, and socialization.
Ongoing Education:
Engage in continuous education related to breed standards, health testing, and responsible breeding practices.
Compliance with Laws:
Abide by all local and international laws regarding dog breeding and ownership.
